Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM), an integral affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a non-profit Christian organization committed to enhancing housing conditions across Malawi. Operating under the vision of “A Malawi where everyone has a decent place to live,” HFHM manages its head office in Area 14, Lilongwe, with active programs extending to Lilongwe, Blantyre, Zomba, Thyolo, Mulanje, Dedza, and Mzuzu.

Habitat for Humanity Malawi is recruiting Construction Supervisors to support its ongoing projects focused on constructing homes for vulnerable populations.

Position CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISORS (MZUZU AND ZOMBA)

Job Summary The Construction Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the successful execution of construction activities for assigned projects. This role ensures all construction work is meticulously supervised, coordinated, and completed in accordance with organizational standards, national construction regulations, and project-specific criteria for structural and environmental sustainability. A strong emphasis will be placed on preventing groundwater contamination and depletion, alongside delivering high-quality, durable construction outcomes.
Reports to: Construction Specialist

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Construction Oversight & Quality Assurance (Outcome Delivery)
    • Achieve key construction objectives on schedule, including the full completion of all water supply systems, lined pit latrines, and ecological latrines.
    • Coordinate daily construction tasks and site operations based on established priorities and planned schedules, ensuring efficient management of community artisans.
  2. Safety, Training & Team Management
    • Enforce strict adherence to all safety rules and procedures on all sites, in line with established safety guidelines.
    • Recruit, mentor, train, and manage community artisans, and effectively delegate responsibilities to contractors.
  3. Logistics, Materials & Environmental Compliance
    • In collaboration with the WASH Project Officer, order all necessary construction materials as recommended by the Construction Specialist and in accordance with the Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
    • Liaise with the Construction Specialist to implement water supply infrastructure construction methods that actively prevent groundwater depletion and ensure long-term environmental sustainability.
  4. Reporting and Administration
    • Provide regular project status updates and all technical information to the Construction Specialist on a weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly basis.
    • Produce Daily Site Reports or Construction Site Inspection Reports for use at the site level and by the Field Office.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Diploma in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, or NCIC Foremanship Level II is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in construction supervision, with a preference for experience in housing construction and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) infrastructure projects.
