Project Overview
The Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada (CDF Canada) is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing poverty and enhancing livelihoods globally by supporting co-operative businesses and financial institutions. CDF Canada strengthens co-operatives in developing nations through technical assistance, funding, and training, empowering communities via sustainable economic development.
CDF Canada is currently executing the Integrating Aquaculture-Agriculture to Combat Food Insecurity in Malawi (IAAM) Project. This initiative aims to boost the productivity, income, and market access for small-scale food producers, with a particular focus on women, engaged in integrated aquaculture-agriculture systems (IAAS) across eight districts in Malawi. The system encompasses fish, crops, livestock, and agroforestry sub-systems.
Internship Objective
This internship is designed to bolster the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) capabilities of the IAAM Project. Concurrently, it offers practical experience and professional growth opportunities for an emerging professional aspiring to a career in M&E within the development and humanitarian sectors.
Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
A. Monitoring and Data Collection
- Assist in routine data collection activities, adhering to the IAAM Project M&E framework.
- Support the administration of surveys and questionnaires.
- Aid in developing and programming data collection instruments and questionnaires.
- Participate in field monitoring visits as required.
- Perform data entry, cleaning, and validation processes.
B. Data Management and Analysis
- Help maintain and update M&E databases and tracking systems.
- Contribute to basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Assist in updating output indicator tracking tables and associated monitoring tools.
C. Reporting and Documentation
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and donor reports.
- Support the organization and filing of project reports and supporting documentation.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating M&E-related meetings and review sessions.
Expected Outcomes
- Accurate and timely input of project data into M&E systems.
- Maintained and updated indicator tracking tables and monitoring tools.
- Well-organized and properly filed project reports and documentation.
- Prompt support provided for reporting and project review processes.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Education
- Recent graduate with a degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
Skills and Experience
- Fundamental understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles and concepts.
- Familiarity with data collection tools (e.g., ODK Collect and Kobo) and methodologies, including surveys and questionnaires.
- Basic data analysis skills using Microsoft Excel and/or statistical software like SPSS or STATA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Capacity to work autonomously with minimal supervision and meet deadlines effectively.
Other Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive attitude towards learning and collaborative teamwork.
- Demonstrated interest in development programming, accountability mechanisms, and results-based management.
Supervision and Support
The intern will operate under the direct supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist. Continuous mentorship, on-the-job training, technical guidance, and regular performance feedback will be provided throughout the internship.
Working Conditions
- This internship is a learning-focused position intended to offer practical professional experience.
- Field travel may be necessary based on project activities and operational requirements.
