The Hunger Project Malawi (THP-Mw), an affiliate of The Hunger Project Global, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the sustainable eradication of world hunger. Our vision is a world free from hunger, and our mission is to empower individuals and communities to drive change that transforms the inequitable systems perpetuating hunger. THP-Mw has been active in Malawi since 1999, implementing programs and projects across Blantyre, Chikwawa, Neno, Nsanje, Machinga, and Rumphi districts.


THP-Mw is recruiting qualified, experienced, and motivated individuals with strong ethical standards to fill the following vacant positions. All roles are based at the Head Office in Blantyre and are offered on a fixed-term annual contract, renewable based on continued donor funding and individual performance.


Health, Nutrition and Gender Program Officer (1) – Blantyre


Position Summary


This role is primarily responsible for leading the implementation of THP-Mw’s Health, Nutrition, and Gender programs across all epicenters and special projects. The Program Officer will collaborate closely with THP-Mw’s Programmes, Finance, and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) teams. The position reports directly to the THP-Malawi Country Manager.


Essential Functions


Health



  • Ensure effective mainstreaming of health considerations across all programs.

  • Provide expert guidance and technical support to program officers on health-related initiatives.

  • Plan and facilitate health-focused activities throughout all projects.

  • Oversee the implementation of THP-Malawi’s HIV & AIDS workplace policy.


Nutrition



  • Lead the execution of all nutrition programs for THP Malawi.

  • Ensure that nutrition issues are appropriately integrated across all programs and projects, including food security, education, WASH, and environment.


Gender



  • Ensure effective mainstreaming of gender considerations across all programs.

  • Lead the implementation of Gender and/or Women Empowerment projects.

  • Provide expert opinion and technical support to Program Officers to ensure gender equality is achieved within THP Malawi's programs and processes.


Responsibilities



  • Achieve all specific targets set for Health, Nutrition, and Gender projects within designated timelines.

  • Represent THP-Malawi, as delegated by the Country Manager, in relevant forums and discussions concerning Health, Nutrition, and Gender.

  • Assist in developing work plans and budgets for Health, Nutrition, and Gender programs.

  • Contribute to program growth by supporting the preparation of high-quality project proposals for potential donors in Health, Nutrition, and Gender.

  • Assist in producing regular progress reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual) and end-of-project reports for donors on Health, Nutrition, and Gender components, as required.

  • Participate in National Advisory Council Meetings and provide necessary reports as requested.

  • Mobilize rural communities and empower the work of Community Animators.

  • Maintain all necessary and relevant records within THP-Malawi’s established guidelines.

  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities related to program implementation.

  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Country Manager.


Required Qualifications and Competencies



  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Gender, or an equivalent qualification. A Master’s degree is considered an advantage.

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, including a senior or leadership role in a Non-Governmental Organization supporting Health, Nutrition, and Gender programming.

  • Experience working with multi-sectoral district teams.

  • High motivation and strong work ethics.

  • A proactive problem-solving approach and a drive to work efficiently as part of a capable team.

  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills. Possess strong interpersonal abilities and comprehensive knowledge of Health, Nutrition, and Gender practices and policies.

  • Basic advocacy and dissemination skills.

  • Proficiency in Project Management, demonstrating tact, patience, and diligence in performing duties. Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines, and collaborate effectively in a team.

  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive matters, manage complex issues simultaneously, and think creatively.
