The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) is a statutory body established under the Communications Act, 2016, to regulate the provision of services in the communications sector in Malawi. MACRA is inviting suitable people to apply for the following vacant positions.
BROADCASTING SERVICES DIRECTORATE
1. DIGITAL CONTENT MANAGER
Job Purpose
To handle licensing, monitoring and enforcement of digital content services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitoring digital content to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the Communications Act, regulations and licence and guidelines.
- I am analyzing licensing regimes of the digital content services and licence applications, evaluations, negotiations and gazetting in conjunction with the Legal Licensing Unit.
- Prepare monitoring reports, including transcripts and highlights of digital content.
- Identify any digital content breaches of the Communications Act and related regulations and immediately supervise for further investigation.
- Analyzing complaints regarding misuse of any purported defences or digital content service providers.
- Compilation of data and producing digital content monitoring, quality of service, audit and incident reports.
- Carrying out annual technical audit on compliance with licence technical conditions and digital content license obligation.
- Facilitate and promote the digitalization of content services, digital audio broadcasting, live streaming services and Interactive Protocol TV (IPTV).
Qualifications and Experience
- Master's Degree in any of the following fields: Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Mass Communications or related field.
- 5 years' experience in the content service industry.
2. BROADCASING OFFICER (GRADE M6)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitoring broadcast content for both television and radio stations.
- Analyzing the content of broadcast works in terms of issues as prescribed in the licensing terms of an operator.
- Operating broadcasting monitoring equipment.
- Conducting investigations and handling complaints on what has been broadcast.
- Monitoring compliance with licence terms and conditions.
- Capturing and managing broadcast data.
- Preparing weekly monitoring reports.
- Carrying quarterly broadcasting technical audits.
