MACHINE OPERATOR

About

To operate, monitor, and maintain cement block manufacturing and ready-mix concrete equipment efficiently and safely, ensuring that all products meet company quality standards, production targets, and customer specifications.

Key Duties

• Operate cement block-making machines and ready-mix concrete batching equipment according to production schedules.
• Prepare and mix raw materials (cement, sand, aggregates, water, and admixtures) in the correct proportions.
• Produce concrete blocks and ready-mix concrete that meet specified quality standards.
• Monitor machine performance and adjust settings to achieve the required product quality.
• Inspect finished concrete blocks for size, strength, shape, and appearance.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections before, during, and after operation.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs on machines.
• Report equipment faults, breakdowns, or quality issues promptly to the supervisor.
• Ensure efficient use of raw materials and minimize waste.
• Maintain accurate production, maintenance, and material usage records.
• Load and unload raw materials and finished products where required.
• Keep the production area clean and organized.
• Follow workplace safety procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Comply with company quality standards, environmental requirements, and operational procedures.
• Assist in stock control of raw materials and finished products when required.
• Support other production activities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
• Certificate in Concrete Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Operations, Plant Operations, or a related field is an added advantage.
• Valid machine operation certification is an added advantage.

Experience

• Minimum of 3-5 years' experience operating cement block-making or ready-mix concrete equipment.
• Experience in a construction materials manufacturing environment is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

• Knowledge of concrete mix designs and production processes.
• Ability to operate batching and block-making machinery safely.
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance skills.
• Ability to interpret production instructions and specifications.
• Good numerical and record-keeping skills.
• Strong attention to detail and quality control.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
• Physically fit and capable of working in an industrial environment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a manufacturing and construction materials production environment. Requires standing for extended periods, lifting materials, and exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions. Use of appropriate PPE is mandatory at all times.
