Acid Plant Mechanical Fitter at Kayelekera Uranium Mine
Lotus Africa is seeking a skilled and driven individual for the position of Acid Plant Mechanical Fitter at the Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
Job Objective:
This role is dedicated to the installation, upkeep, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and systems to ensure efficient and safe operations. As a hands-on position, you will collaborate with supervisors, team leaders, and fellow tradespeople to conduct scheduled and breakdown maintenance, strictly adhering to work orders and safety regulations. Your contribution is vital for maintaining plant reliability, minimizing equipment downtime, and fostering a secure and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety: Achieve zero safety incidents or near misses by rigorously following personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines and worksite safety protocols.
- Equipment Availability: Ensure optimal operational readiness of all engineering systems.
- Maintenance Planning: Aim for a planned versus unplanned maintenance ratio exceeding 80%.
- Task Completion: Guarantee 100% completion and accurate documentation of all job cards.
- Breakdown Management: Efficiently respond to and resolve equipment breakdowns.
- Downtime Reduction: Contribute to decreasing unplanned downtime caused by equipment failures.
- Scheduling: Partner with supervisors to plan both routine and non-routine maintenance activities.
- Preparation: Review job specifications, work packages, drawings, and mechanical procedures before commencing work.
- Resource Assurance: Verify that all necessary tools, measuring equipment, hand tools, materials, and appropriate PPE are available and in good working condition prior to starting any task.
- Proactive Maintenance: Identify potential equipment failures and propose sustainable corrective actions.
- Equipment Longevity: Ensure all mechanical equipment, including crushers, mills, conveyors, and pumps, is maintained for long-term reliability and operational resilience.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Possess a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or an equivalent or higher qualification.
- Hold a recognized Fitter Trade Certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience with hydraulics would be beneficial.
- A minimum of 3 years of trade experience within a fixed/acid plant environment.
- Proficiency in spoken, written, and reading English is essential.
