Working Hours: Interns will work approximately 5 hours daily, Monday through Friday, with flexibility to be arranged with the ICT Department. This is a remote position.

Liberty Affiliates is a Malawi-based consultancy and development organisation offering a range of services, including project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, research, digital solutions, and capacity building.


We are seeking a motivated and technically proficient ICT & Web Development Intern to contribute to our website management, web development projects, and broader digital technology initiatives over a three-month period.


Key Responsibilities


Reporting to the ICT Department, the successful candidate will undertake the following duties:



  • Maintain, update, and manage the Liberty Affiliates website effectively.

  • Develop new website pages, implement new features, design forms, and create other web components.

  • Enhance the website’s design, responsiveness, overall functionality, and user experience.

  • Diagnose and resolve website errors, bugs, broken links, and other technical issues.

  • Upload and organise website content, such as organisational news, reports, project details, job openings, and other relevant materials.

  • Ensure the website delivers a seamless experience across desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.

  • Provide support for essential website security measures, data backups, performance optimisation, and search engine optimisation (SEO).

  • Utilise web development technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Offer support for Content Management Systems like WordPress, as needed.

  • Assist with various ICT and digital technology assignments within the organisation.

  • Explore and apply practical uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to enhance website management and streamline organisational processes.

  • Document all website modifications and provide concise progress reports on assigned tasks.


Qualifications & Skills


Ideal candidates will possess:



  • A Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or current enrollment in a program related to Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, ICT, or a similar discipline.

  • Proven practical experience in web development.

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Prior experience with WordPress or other Content Management Systems is beneficial.

  • A foundational understanding of databases and responsive web design principles is advantageous.

  • A strong interest in AI and contemporary digital technologies.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities.

  • Effective communication and documentation skills.

  • The ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines.

  • A keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to learning.


MANDATORY WEB DEVELOPMENT DEMONSTRATION


All applicants are required to showcase their practical web development expertise.


Prospective interns must submit links to one or two websites they have personally developed or played a significant role in developing.


For each submitted website, please provide a brief description covering:



  • The website’s name and its URL.

  • Your specific role in its development.

  • The technologies and tools employed.

  • Key features or components you were responsible for creating.

  • The nature of the project (personal, academic, organisational, or client-based).


If a website was developed collaboratively, applicants must clearly outline their individual contributions to the project.


Applications that do not include evidence of web development work may not be considered.


REFEREES


Applicants are required to provide details for at least two referees.


At least one referee should be an academic (lecturer or supervisor) or a former workplace supervisor who can attest to the applicant’s technical abilities, work ethic, and performance.


Each referee's submission should include:



  • Their full name.

  • Their position or title.

  • Their organisation or institution.

  • Their professional relationship to the applicant.

  • Their telephone number.

  • Their email address.


Applicants are responsible for ensuring their referees are aware they may be contacted.


EXPECTED STIPEND


Applicants must clearly state their expected monthly stipend in Malawi Kwacha (MWK) for the duration of the three-month internship.

Liberty Affiliates will determine the final stipend based on the applicant's skills, qualifications, demonstrated capabilities, and the specifics of the internship arrangement.
