The Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST) is recruiting a dynamic Pharmacist to enhance its pharmaceutical operations and inventory management. This is a key role within the Trust, supporting the efficient delivery of medicines and medical supplies to public health facilities across Malawi.

Purpose of the Role


This position will assist in managing and coordinating pharmaceutical operations, ensuring efficient inventory management, and overseeing warehouse activities within the Trust. The role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and availability of pharmaceutical stock.


Key Responsibilities



  • Supervise and monitor warehouse operations to guarantee effective inventory management and order fulfillment.

  • Ensure strict compliance with Good Warehousing and Distribution Practices and all relevant regulatory standards.

  • Maintain accurate records of manufacturing certificates and quality control reports.

  • Oversee the recording and updating of stock movements within management information systems.

  • Verify and approve inventory receipts and issues.

  • Liaise with the Finance Department concerning invoicing procedures.

  • Ensure prompt processing and dispatch of customer orders.

  • Coordinate stock counts, physical inventories, and the reporting of discrepancies.

  • Provide expert advice to management regarding stock status.

  • Manage and coordinate transport arrangements with logistics service providers.

  • Oversee the utilization and maintenance of warehouse equipment.

  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to warehouse functions.

  • Train staff on approved SOPs and warehouse operational procedures.

  • Ensure safe and efficient material handling processes are in place.


Qualifications and Experience



  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution. Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent is required. Must be registered with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA). Postgraduate training in Supply Chain Management or Logistics would be a significant asset.

  • Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant experience in warehouse management, pharmaceutical supply chains, or health commodities management. Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is required. Previous exposure to health systems and logistics management is advantageous.
