Mzuzu International Academy (MIA), a distinguished educational institution in Malawi, is dedicated to providing a high-calibre learning experience within a supportive and progressive environment. We are currently seeking two motivated, detail-oriented, and ethical professionals to bolster our Finance Department as Finance Assistants.
Position: Finance Assistant
Location: Mzuzu
Reports to: Accountant
The Role
As a Finance Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Accountant to ensure the seamless operation of the Academy’s financial activities. Your responsibilities will encompass managing accounts payable and receivable, handling banking transactions, assisting with payroll, maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, ensuring statutory compliance, supporting budgeting efforts, and aiding in audit preparation, all while upholding the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Process supplier invoices, payment vouchers, and conduct reconciliations.
- Record student fee payments and meticulously maintain debtor records.
- Prepare daily banking reconciliations and manage petty cash.
- Accurately input financial transactions into the accounting system.
- Support the processing of payroll and statutory deductions.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports and budget monitoring.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Contribute to internal and external audit processes.
- Ensure adherence to all financial policies and statutory requirements.
- Undertake other assigned finance-related tasks as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Possession of a Technician Diploma in Accounting (ICAM) or ACCA/CIMA Level 1 or higher will be a significant advantage.
- A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in an accounting or finance support capacity.
- Demonstrated experience with QuickBooks Online or comparable accounting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles and payroll procedures.
- Familiarity with Malawian tax regulations and statutory compliance will be beneficial.
