VETERINARIAN — COMMERCIAL AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS

About

A large commercial agricultural business is seeking a qualified, experienced Veterinarian to oversee livestock health and welfare across its farming operations. The role includes working with commercial beef cattle and a breeding herd, sheep, goats, etc.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat livestock illnesses and injuries.
• Develop and implement herd health programmes, including vaccinations and parasite control.
• Oversee reproductive health, breeding management and pregnancy diagnosis.
• Advise on nutrition, animal welfare and biosecurity.
• Monitor herd performance and maintain accurate treatment and health records.
• Train farm staff in animal handling, disease prevention and recognising signs of illness.
• Manage veterinary medicines, supplies and equipment.
• Travel between farms within Southern Malawi and respond to livestock emergencies.

Qualifications

• Degree in Veterinary Medicine and registration, or eligibility for registration, with the relevant veterinary authority in Malawi.
• Practical experience working with cattle, preferably commercial beef and breeding herds.
• Strong knowledge of herd health, reproduction and disease prevention.
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with farm teams.
• Good record-keeping and organisational skills.
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel within Southern Malawi.
• Experience with cattle.
