SME Collections Officers (27 positions)

Reports to: Branch Manager

Location: All districts – Please specify your preferred district in your application.

Job Purpose

The SME Collections Officer is tasked with proactively managing and recovering delinquent SME loan accounts. This involves engaging SME members, monitoring portfolio performance, and implementing effective recovery strategies to minimize credit risk, reduce non-performing loans, and ensure the financial sustainability of UCSSACCO.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Loan Recovery and Follow-ups



  • Conduct follow-ups on overdue SME loans via telephone calls, SMS, emails, and in-person visits.

  • Remind members of missed or upcoming repayment obligations.


Account Monitoring and Member Engagement



  • Monitor SME loan accounts and ageing reports to identify arrears promptly.

  • Track daily, weekly, and monthly collection targets.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all recovery activities undertaken.

  • Educate SME members on loan terms and repayment schedules.

  • Address member queries and complaints concerning repayments.

  • Uphold professional and ethical conduct in all interactions with members.


Field Collections



  • Conduct site visits to SME members' business premises and residences.

  • Verify business operations, assess cash flows, and confirm member information.

  • Issue demand notices and reminder letters as necessary.


Reporting



  • Prepare comprehensive collection reports detailing arrears, recoveries, and default trends.

  • Escalate cases of chronic defaulters to the supervisor for further action.

  • Recommend write-offs, loan restructures, or legal actions when appropriate.


Compliance and Risk Management



  • Ensure all collection activities strictly adhere to institutional policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Abstain from harassment or unethical collection practices.

  • Assist in fraud detection by reporting suspicious member behaviour.


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience



  • A Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in SME loan collections or credit management.

  • Understanding of SME operations, cash flow cycles, and business environments.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • High levels of integrity and reliability.

  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Basic understanding of risk management and collections processes.
