Career Opportunity: Financial Controller

Stephanos Foundation, a faith-based international non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to enhancing the welfare of vulnerable children through its programs in Chilangoma, Chileka, Blantyre, Malawi, is seeking a qualified and experienced Financial Controller. The Foundation, established in Malawi in 1994 and originating from the Netherlands, is registered with CONGOMA, NGORA, and ECAM.

Position Details:

• Position Title: Financial Controller
• Reporting To: Executive Director
• Level: Executive Member

Core Purpose of the Role

The Financial Controller will be responsible for the comprehensive oversight of the Foundation’s financial management systems. This includes the meticulous maintenance of accounts, the strategic execution of budgeting processes, and robust expenditure control. The role involves supervising the Accounts Department to ensure the efficient and timely processing of financial transactions and payments. Additionally, the position contributes to strategic planning, organizational policy development, and performance management, ensuring effective implementation across the Foundation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Uphold diligent financial management practices, ensuring full compliance with organizational policies and procedures, and maintain accurate financial and organizational records.
• Lead the budgeting process, closely monitor budget performance, conduct thorough analysis of variances, and provide essential financial guidance to budget holders and Management.
• Supervise all financial operations, including the reconciliation of income and expenditure, journal entries, preparation of annual financial reports, and the generation of cash flow forecasts.
• Provide leadership and guidance to the Accounts Department, conduct regular and surprise audits of stock and cash, and monitor outstanding loans and advances.
• Contribute to organizational accountability and strategic objectives through effective departmental coordination and the execution of any other duties assigned by Management.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• A Master’s Degree in Accounting.
• A recognized professional accounting qualification such as CA Malawi, ACCA, or CIMA.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
• A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
• Membership in the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM).
• Proficiency in the Sage Pastel accounting package.
• Demonstrated strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
• A high level of integrity and professionalism.
• Proven ability to work effectively within a team.
• A solid understanding of and faithful adherence to Biblical Scripture and doctrine.
