Tingathe Malawi is a non-governmental organization that partners with peri-urban communities to build wealth that sticks. Through the Poverty Graduation Model, we engage youth (in and out of school), women and children in their journey toward self-reliance and socio-economic well-being.
Our approach equips young people with the skills and confidence to make informed decisions about their present and future, positioning them as community leaders who can contribute to the transformation of their communities from poverty to prosperity.
The Poverty Graduation Model combines life skills and technical training, asset transfers, enterprise development, savings and future planning to help ultra-poor families transition to sustainable livelihoods. This multi-sectoral approach includes:
Formal and informal marketable vocational skills training.
Support for economic activity through productive assets, seed capital, informal self-employment or access to formal employment.
Financial inclusion, including access to savings services and financial capability building.
Coaching, mentoring, and group membership to reinforce skills, build confidence, and reduce social exclusion.
Tingathe is seeking a motivated and results-oriented Programmes Officer to support the implementation, monitoring and learning of its programmes. This role requires strong community engagement skills, sound Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning practices and the ability to translate programme work into reports, stories and communications content.
The successful candidate will work closely with the communications team to support programmes visibility and documentation. This position is ideal for a self-driven professional comfortable working with communities, collecting and interpreting data and presenting insights in a clear and engaging way.
Must be based in Lilongwe (preferably close to Mtandire – Air Wing).
The Programmes Officer will:
Support the planning and implementation of programmes in line with approved work plans and budgets
Mobilize communities and work closely with community leaders, local structures and beneficiaries to support programme activities
Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation activities, including data collection, verification and analysis
Prepare timely, accurate programme reports, progress updates and learning summaries
Use monitoring data to track results, identify challenges and inform programme improvements
Facilitate meetings, trainings and community dialogues with community structures and leaders
Support beneficiary identification, engagement and follow-up visits
Work collaboratively with the communications team to draft newsletter content, write articles, take photos during events and document success stories
Engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, partners and local authorities
Maintain accurate programme records and ensure accountability and data quality
Uphold Tingathe’s values, safeguarding standards and commitment to working respectfully with vulnerable communities
Perform any other duties reasonably assigned in support of Tingathe’s mission
Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Community Development, Development Studies, Monitoring & Evaluation, Social Sciences, or a related field
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in NGOs, including monitoring and evaluation
Experience working with communications teams is an advantage
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Passion for working with vulnerable people and alignment with Tingathe’s values
Entrepreneurial mindset and strong problem-solving skills
Proven ability to collect, analyze and report data accurately
Experience facilitating meetings, trainings and community engagement activities
Practical experience using M&E tools, including surveys, questionnaires, focus group discussions (FGDs), key informant interviews (KIIs) and logframe indicators
Ability to interpret programme data and present findings in clear, concise reports
Strong facilitation and community engagement skills
Basic documentation and storytelling skills; experience in photography and content creation is an added advantage
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills and confidence working with diverse stakeholders
