About the Role
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research and programmatic innovation at the intersection of gaming, technology, and preventing/countering violent extremism (PCVE). Working under UNOPS supervision, you will support the implementation of activities for UNOCT/UNCCT’s Global PCVE Programme. Your work will help shape global policy and practice through multi-stakeholder engagement, focusing on the strategic use of gaming platforms in PCVE efforts.
Role Purpose
As the Project Management Support - Specialist [Gaming and PCVE Expert], you will provide essential technical expertise and programme support to design, implement, and translate research and engagement activities concerning the use of gaming platforms in preventing and countering violent extremism. This role is pivotal in:
- Generating evidence through research, surveys, and analysis.
- Driving programme delivery, including trainings, events, and stakeholder engagement, and overseeing the development of gaming prototypes.
- Producing policy and practice outputs such as reports, recommendations, and guidance.
You will ensure all outputs are methodologically sound, policy-relevant, operationally actionable, and aligned with UNOCT priorities, human rights standards, and partner expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical input for the design and implementation of gaming and PCVE activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives and UNOCT priorities.
- Develop research frameworks, methodologies, and workplans for analyzing risks, trends, and opportunities within gaming ecosystems.
- Contribute to project planning, including timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder mapping related to gaming initiatives globally and in Southeast Asia.
- Identify emerging risks, trends, and innovation opportunities concerning the exploitation of digital platforms, including gaming environments, by extremist actors.
- Facilitate coordination with diverse partners, including Member States, tech companies, civil society organizations, gamers, developers, youth representatives, and research institutions.
- Support the preparation and organization of project milestones, including report development, validation processes, and dissemination efforts.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of data gathered through surveys, interviews, and consultations.
- Develop analytical reports, policy briefs, and presentations on trends in gaming and violent extremism.
- Translate research findings into actionable recommendations for policymakers, practitioners, and industry stakeholders.
- Ensure all research outputs and deliverables adhere to high standards of analytical rigor, methodological soundness, and policy relevance.
- Apply ethical, human rights-based, and conflict-sensitive approaches to all research and engagement activities.
- Contribute to global knowledge development on gaming and violent extremism through publications, presentations, and participation in expert forums.
- Support the design and delivery of gaming prototypes, trainings, workshops, and stakeholder dialogues.
- Engage with global networks to share lessons learned and emerging practices, strengthening UNOCT’s thought leadership in this domain.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, political science, security studies, social sciences, technology policy, or a related field, with at least five (5) years of relevant progressive experience.
- Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in a relevant field with at least seven (7) years of relevant progressive experience.
- Demonstrated experience in preventing and countering violent extremism, counter-terrorism, digital harms, or related fields.
- Proven experience in research design, data collection, and analytical report writing.
- Experience working with digital platforms, online ecosystems, or emerging technologies, including gaming or gaming-adjacent environments.
- Experience in engaging with multi-stakeholder environments, including governments, tech companies, civil society, and international organizations.
- Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Russian, or Spanish is desirable.
