Senior Outreach Officer

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited, established under Malawi's Companies Act, is actively seeking applications from qualified individuals to fill current vacancies within the corporation. ESCOM's primary mandate involves the procurement, transmission, and distribution of electrical power throughout Malawi, alongside overseeing System Market Operations and functioning as the Single Buyer in the nation.

Senior Outreach Officer – 1 Position
Grade: ES6
Location: Blantyre
Supervised by: Chief Public Relations & Communications Officer

Purpose of the Role

This position involves developing and executing the Corporation’s outreach strategy, alongside coordinating diverse outreach initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Formulate and execute comprehensive outreach strategies to effectively promote ESCOM’s services and projects.
2. Lead and develop outreach campaigns, encompassing, but not limited to, anti-vandalism, safety, and wayleave awareness initiatives.
3. Work collaboratively with marketing and communications teams to produce compelling Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, including brochures, flyers, and social media content.
4. Liaise with various internal departments to guarantee uniformity in messaging and branding across all IEC materials.
5. Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with vital stakeholders, such as government bodies, community groups, and media organizations.
6. Plan and engage in community events, workshops, and presentations designed to inform the public about ESCOM's initiatives.
7. Assess and measure the impact of outreach activities using data analysis and stakeholder feedback.
8. Remain current with industry developments and leading practices in outreach and communication to continually enhance ESCOM’s strategies.

Required Attributes and Competencies

• Demonstrated success in conceptualizing and directing outreach and mass communication campaigns.
• Exceptional writing and editing proficiency.
• Superior verbal communication capabilities.
• Outstanding public speaking skills, including fluency in local languages.
• Experience in managing media relations and crisis communications.
• Capable of performing tasks autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and various social media platforms.
• Prior experience in the energy sector is considered advantageous.
• Adept at managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a dynamic work environment.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing.
• A minimum of 4 years of work experience in public relations or communications.
• Professional Membership with the Public Relations Society of Malawi (PRSM).
