St. Andrew’s International Primary School is an independent international school based in Blantyre, Malawi. We are a dynamic, modern school that seeks to provide our children with a wide range of opportunities in their learning.
Our curriculum is based on the British National Curriculum. Our teachers are skilled professionals, hailing from all over the world. Currently, the school has approximately 300 students from Toddler Class at 14 months, up to Year 6.
St. Andrew’s International Primary School seeks to appoint outstanding professionals in the following leadership positions on fixed two-year period contracts, renewable depending on performance and availability of funds. The role holders will report to the Head Teacher.
To ensure effective financial management of the school, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, compliance with statutory requirements, and the efficient use of resources to support high-quality education delivery.
Develop and manage the school’s annual budget in collaboration with the Head Teacher.
Monitor income and expenditure to ensure financial sustainability.
Prepare monthly, termly, and annual financial reports for management and the Board.
Conduct financial forecasting and cash flow management.
Maintain accurate financial records in line with international accounting standards and local regulations.
Oversee general ledger, bank reconciliations, and financial statements.
Manage payroll, including salaries, benefits, statutory deductions, and pensions.
Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Oversee school fees billing, collection, and reconciliation.
Implement and monitor fee policies, discounts, and payment plans.
Follow up on outstanding fees and manage credit control professionally.
Ensure that all procurements are carried out within budget and that there is value for money and transparency.
Maintain an up-to-date asset register for school property and equipment.
Ensure proper financial approval processes are followed.
Ensure compliance with local tax laws, labor laws, and education regulations.
Prepare and submit statutory returns and tax payments on time.
Implement internal controls to minimize financial risk and fraud.
Supervise and support finance and accounts staff.
Work closely with the Head of School, HR, and operations teams.
Provide financial advice to support strategic decision-making.
Serve as Secretary of the Finance Committee of the Board.
Prepare periodic reports for management and the Board.
Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, and a professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or CIMA.
Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Malawi.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management, preferably in an international school or non-profit organization.
Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and audits.
Experience working with multicultural teams is an advantage.
Excellent financial analysis and problem-solving skills.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
Emotionally stable, able to manage relationships between parents, students, school officials, and the public.
Patience and understanding.
Dependability.
Understanding of safeguarding issues in a school environment.
