ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPENINGS

The Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA), a local Non-Governmental Organization established in 2001 and registered in Malawi in 2007, is dedicated to enhancing healthcare access. Since 2008, GAIA has collaborated with the Ministry of Health and District Councils to address healthcare gaps, improving access to quality health services in remote areas through Mobile Health Clinics (MHC). Furthermore, GAIA bolsters the health workforce by offering Nursing and Midwifery Scholarships and Fellowships.

In 2026, GAIA is broadening its reach by expanding into Nsanje District. This initiative aims to deliver vital primary healthcare services to underserved rural populations. The Nsanje program will alleviate transportation challenges for residents living far from fixed health facilities, build local capacity, and strengthen district partners to establish a comprehensive care system for the district's rural communities.

To ensure the effective execution of the Mobile Health Clinic program, GAIA is seeking to recruit highly motivated and qualified individuals for the following positions, to be based in Nsanje District:

Position: Clinical Officer (1)

Reports To: Projects Coordinator

Work Location: Nsanje

Job Overview

The Clinical Officer will be responsible for overseeing healthcare services within the district. This role involves providing leadership and mentorship to the team to ensure the high-quality delivery of health services.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor the activities undertaken by the MHC team.
• Provide assessment, diagnosis, and management of clients and patients in accordance with Government policies.
• Facilitate patient referrals to other Health Facilities for further investigations and management.
• Uphold standards and ensure quality assurance across all clinics, adhering to current national guidelines, protocols, and policies from the Ministry of Health (MoH).
• Coordinate clinic operations and ensure adequate fuel availability for all operational vehicles.
• Develop and approve staff work plans, submitting them to supervisors.
• Maintain accurate record-keeping systems within the clinics and generate monthly reports for the District Health Office and GAIA.
• Review and verify monthly drug orders for the clinics.
• Manage workplace conflicts within the clinical area and report incidents to the Projects Coordinator.
• Periodically inspect ambulance logbooks and vehicle conditions, signing fuel orders/requisitions.
• Coordinate staff deployment across the two mobile health clinics in Nsanje to ensure sufficient staffing on all working days.
• Support teams in conducting continuous professional development (CPD) sessions and orienting/mentoring new and part-time staff.
• Foster collaboration with health center staff and community health workers to enhance working relationships.
• Implement a strict system for monitoring medicine consumption to prevent stockouts.
• Ensure patient and client rights are protected from harmful practices, reporting any instances of abuse or neglect.

Required Qualifications and Competencies

• Possession of a Diploma in Clinical Medicine from an accredited institution, coupled with a minimum of two years' experience in a primary healthcare setting.
• Current registration with the Medical Council of Malawi (MCM) and holding a valid practicing license.
• Demonstrated strong clinical and diagnostic skills in primary healthcare.
• Proficiency in supervision, mentorship, team building, and conflict management.
• Prior experience working with mobile or outreach health service delivery models.
• Competency in ICT, including data entry, Microsoft Suite, and familiarity with Ministry of Health systems and reporting tools (e.g., DHIS2, CommCare).
• Holding certifications in Management of HIV in Adults and Children, HIV Testing Services, and screening/diagnosis of cervical cancer will be considered an asset.
