Role Overview


Position Summary


Research Assistants/Enumerators will play a crucial role in supporting both quantitative and qualitative data collection efforts. This includes administering surveys, facilitating interviews, transcribing qualitative data, and assisting with data quality assurance measures, all under the guidance of the study's co-investigator.


Key Responsibilities



  • Execute quantitative data collection using mobile data collection platforms (such as ODK, Kobo, SurveyCTO, or similar tools on tablets and smartphones).

  • Conduct key informant interviews (KIIs) and in-depth interviews (IDIs) with healthcare providers, policymakers, and other relevant stakeholders as needed.

  • Assist in the recruitment of study participants in strict accordance with the study protocol.

  • Perform accurate and timely transcription of audio-recorded interviews.

  • Uphold research ethics by ensuring informed consent, maintaining confidentiality, and engaging respectfully with adolescents and youth.

  • Actively participate in all study training sessions, pilot testing phases, and daily debrief meetings.

  • Submit all collected data and field reports within the stipulated study timelines.

  • Promptly report any challenges encountered during the data collection process to the designated field supervisor.





Required Qualifications


Candidates must satisfy the following requirements:



  • Possess a minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Demography, Sociology, or a closely related discipline.

  • Demonstrate prior experience in data collection for public health or social science research projects.

  • Exhibit strong proficiency in utilizing mobile and electronic data collection tools.

  • Possess excellent interviewing and communication skills, with proven experience conducting qualitative interviews.

  • Have prior experience in the audio transcription of qualitative data.

  • Familiarity with adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health topics will be considered an advantage.

  • Be fluent in both English and relevant local languages spoken in Malawi.

  • Exhibit a high degree of professionalism, reliability, and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.


Advantageous Qualifications



  • Experience conducting research within public health facilities or collaborating with government stakeholders.

  • Previous training in research ethics or human subjects' protection.
