About
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Malawi is actively supporting the country's agricultural sector, which is vital for the economy, by fostering commercialization and partnering with the private sector. Through the UCHI Strengthening Agricultural Commercialization Project, UNDP provides technical expertise and resources to address challenges and create market opportunities for smallholder farmers. The project seeks a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Intern to enhance monitoring, evaluation, knowledge management, and learning processes in line with UNDP and donor requirements. The intern will assist in tracking project progress, data collection, management, reporting, and documentation of results and lessons learned, working under the direct supervision of the MEL Specialist.
Key Duties
- Support the establishment and implementation of the UCHI-Agriculture Commercialization M&E Framework, including developing data collection tools, supporting data collection activities, assisting with Data Quality Assurance (DQA), and documenting lessons learned.
- Develop and roll out Knowledge Management Systems by assisting in maintaining a project master database, implementing the Knowledge Management Plan, preparing dashboards and visualizations, and supporting knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Support work planning and reporting through the preparation of periodic project reports, integration of monitoring indicators into work plans, and assisting with feedback mechanisms and progress tracking.
- Support evaluation activities by assisting in preparing Terms of Reference (TORs) for evaluations, coordinating evaluation missions, compiling relevant project documentation, and supporting follow-up on recommendations.
Qualifications
Education
- Currently in the final year of a Bachelor's degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Economics, Applied Statistics, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Agricultural Economics, or a related field; OR
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the aforementioned fields, obtained within 1 year after graduation.
- Candidates currently pursuing or recently completing (within 1 year) a Master’s degree in related fields will have an added advantage.
Experience
- Previous professional experience is not mandatory, but relevant experience through internships, research work, academic projects, or volunteer assignments in monitoring and evaluation, data collection, or research will be an added advantage.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts, including indicators, data collection, and results-based management.
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.
- Basic analytical skills and ability to assist in data analysis and interpretation.
- Ability to support documentation, reporting, and knowledge management activities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Desired Skills
- Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar software.
- Experience or familiarity with digital data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar systems.
Languages
- Fluency in English and Chichewa.
