Job Description
Reporting directly to the Senior Driver and working under the overall guidance of the Chief of Mission (CoM) in Malawi, in collaboration with the Resource Management Officer, the selected candidate will assume responsibility for the following duties:
Responsibilities
- Operate designated IOM office vehicles.
- Oversee the daily maintenance of assigned vehicles to ensure their continuous roadworthiness, conducting routine inspections of tires, brakes, engine oil, and fan belts.
- Coordinate minor repairs and maintain the cleanliness of all vehicles.
- Confirm that vehicles adhere to their scheduled service intervals.
- Maintain comprehensive records of vehicle spare parts and perform a monthly inventory check.
- Determine the most direct and secure routes, utilizing optimal road conditions to reach destinations efficiently.
- Verify that IOM vehicles are exclusively used for official or authorized assignments, as directed by the supervisor.
- Ensure accurate completion of daily log sheets and prepare monthly reports detailing mileage, fuel consumption, and related vehicle statistics.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion in all discussions pertaining to IOM and its personnel. Implement appropriate measures to mitigate potential security risks to IOM officials or property in the vehicle's immediate vicinity and along all transport routes.
- Receive official personnel at airports and assist with immigration and customs procedures when necessary.
- Handle the collection and delivery of mail, documents, pouches, and various communications or items for the country office. This includes visits to post offices, airports, government agencies, other UN bodies, institutions, and project sites for deliveries, maintaining all necessary records.
- Provide support to country office staff with basic clerical tasks, such as managing telephone calls, photocopying documents, and maintaining records, as required.
- Undertake any other duties as directed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Possession of a high school degree or certificate, coupled with at least two years of relevant professional experience.
- A valid national driver’s license, specifically a Professional Passenger Driver’s License (Category PG).
Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of driving rules and traffic regulations.
- Proven experience operating various types and models of vehicles.
- Prior work experience with UN Agencies, international humanitarian organizations, or government institutions within a multicultural environment is considered an asset.
- Mandatory certification in first aid and defensive driving.
- Familiarity with radio communication, email, telephone systems, and other relevant applications.
Skills
- Competence in performing minor vehicle repairs.
- Possession of a high degree of responsibility.
- Capacity to comprehend and uphold confidentiality, alongside the ability to coordinate administrative tasks.
