Videographer - Canadian International Volunteer (Malawi)
Are you a Canadian citizen or permanent resident with a passion for environmental conservation and filmmaking? Ulalo, in partnership with WUSC, is seeking a skilled Videographer for a 4-6 month full-time assignment in Mzuzu, Malawi. This role is crucial for enhancing Ulalo's digital presence and fundraising efforts by producing high-impact visual content that showcases their vital work in environmental sustainability.

Assignment Context:
As a Videographer with Ulalo, you will collaborate closely with the team to create compelling short videos and photo essays that highlight Ulalo's environmental sustainability initiatives. Beyond content creation, this role focuses on building long-term capacity within the organization and shaping a powerful visual narrative. You will contribute to communications, advocacy, fundraising, and overall visibility.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Research, script, film, edit, and produce short impact videos and photo essays for various communication needs.
- Assist in identifying and securing filming locations and subjects, ensuring content is captured with dignity, authenticity, and cultural sensitivity.
- Capture professional, visually appealing images and video footage for Ulalo’s digital library and reports.
- Mentor and train communications personnel in camera operation, videography, and editing to build long-term capacity.
- Integrate principles of gender equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability into all video production and communication outputs.
- Participate in mandatory pre-assignment training and at least three public engagement initiatives with Canadian audiences.
- Contribute to a fundraising target of $1,500 through public engagement activities.
- Submit required reports to the partner organization and WUSC.
Experience and Qualifications:
- A Degree in Communications or a related field.
- A strong understanding of international development issues.
- Proven experience as a photographer/videographer, preferably in challenging environments.
- Excellent communication skills with corresponding experience.
- Flexibility, adaptability, strong interpersonal skills, and cultural sensitivity.
- Experience with group facilitation and training, including content development, is an asset.
- Previous international work experience is considered an asset.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
