Purpose of the Position
The Waiter plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of food and beverage services, maintaining exceptional productivity, quality, and guest satisfaction in line with Viking’s STAR Service Standards. Your primary responsibility is to cultivate a welcoming and guest-centric service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage your assigned service station, providing guidance to 2-4 Assistant Waiters and/or Café attendants. Handle room service orders and dispatch as directed.
- Manage restaurant reservations and seating arrangements as instructed.
- Conduct inventory and stock takes according to company procedures.
- Develop a strong command of food and beverage terminology, including proper pronunciation, to enhance the guest dining experience. Become proficient with menu descriptions and wine lists to offer informed recommendations.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of Viking's food and beverage offerings and shipboard activities. Present menus, suggest dishes and wine pairings, and address guest inquiries with expertise.
- Accurately relay orders to the Galley using designated software and serve food and beverages efficiently and courteously, adhering to company alcohol service policies and safety standards.
- Prepare and execute food and beverage events, such as cocktail parties and tea times, as assigned.
- Maintain assigned inventory stock at set par levels, strictly following safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ensure all assigned areas are meticulously set up according to company standards, operational manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Minimize equipment loss and damage while upholding impeccable cleanliness standards in all service areas. Adhere to safe working practices and Public Health Policies, ensuring all equipment is properly sanitized and stored after each use.
- Prepare the necessary mise-en-place for all areas of responsibility 15 minutes prior to service commencement.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Waiter in a high-volume restaurant or hospitality setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food and beverage service, including wine and cocktail preparation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on delivering exceptional guest service.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of safety and sanitation protocols.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends.
- Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
