The Opportunity

Save the Children is actively seeking a dynamic and experienced Innovations Manager to spearhead innovation and digital transformation initiatives across its Malawi operations, based in Lilongwe. This pivotal role is essential for driving the conceptualisation, piloting, and expansion of high-impact, child-centric innovations aimed at advancing children's rights and enhancing their wellbeing.

In close collaboration with Senior Technical Advisors, Project Managers, and regional teams, the Innovations Manager will be responsible for executing the Country Office’s Innovation Strategy and overseeing crucial innovation projects. This position champions human-centred design, digital inclusivity, and localisation, ensuring that children, young people, and local communities are key participants in developing solutions that directly impact their lives.

The successful candidate will manage the innovation lifecycle, from initial idea generation through pilot testing to successful scale-up. This includes robust project management, generating evidence, and fostering continuous learning. Furthermore, the role involves cultivating and maintaining strategic alliances with donors, private sector entities, innovation hubs, and government stakeholders, thereby positioning Save the Children Malawi as a leader in child-focused innovation.

Should a significant humanitarian emergency arise, the role holder will be expected to operate beyond their standard role profile and adjust working hours as required.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, or a closely related discipline.
• Professional certifications in product development, innovation, or analogous fields are considered advantageous.
• 5–7 years of demonstrated experience leading initiatives in innovation, digital solutions, or technology-for-development.
• Proven expertise in human-centred design (HCD), agile methodologies, and evidence-based programme development.
• Extensive experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects, encompassing budgeting, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Exceptional facilitation, coaching, and capacity-building capabilities.
• Experience in developing and integrating innovative approaches across various thematic programmes.
• Outstanding planning, coordination, and reporting skills, with the capacity to effectively manage numerous priorities.
• Strong communication and relationship management skills, including experience engaging with partners, youth, and communities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital collaboration tools such as Figma and Miro.
• Familiarity with donor requirements and the process of integrating innovation into proposal development.
• Fluency in both written and spoken English.
