Portland Cement Malawi Limited is seeking applications from qualified, motivated, and results-oriented individuals to fill the position of Legal Manager.

Job Summary
The Legal Manager will provide critical legal support and guidance to the company, ensuring full compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. This role is instrumental in protecting the company's interests, advising management on legal matters, mitigating risks, upholding corporate governance, and facilitating smooth business operations through expert legal counsel.
Responsibilities
- Deliver legal advice to management and various departments on corporate, labour, and commercial law matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal instruments such as supplier contracts, service agreements, and employment contracts.
- Represent the company in legal proceedings and manage relationships with external counsel for litigation, legal opinions, and outsourced legal services.
- Ensure strict adherence to Malawi labour laws, company policies, and all statutory obligations.
- Develop and implement policies designed to minimize legal risks, especially concerning safety, labour relations, and supplier agreements.
- Support the Human Resources department and management in managing disciplinary actions, employment contracts, and compliance for expatriate staff.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislative changes and effectively communicate these to relevant departments and stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit necessary regulatory and statutory returns, including maintaining legal registers and compliance reports.
- Manage and maintain comprehensive legal documentation, records, and case files.
- Conduct thorough legal research and prepare briefs and reports to inform management decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Must be a qualified solicitor or barrister, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from an accredited university and be admitted to practice in Malawi.
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in corporate or industrial law.
- Demonstrate a strong command of Malawi labour laws, corporate governance, and compliance frameworks.
- Exhibit exceptional drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Experience within the manufacturing or industrial sector will be a notable advantage.
