Latitude 13 Degrees in Lilongwe is seeking a suitably qualified, self-motivated, and dedicated individual for the role of Porter / Steward.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the kitchen remains clean, well-maintained, and organized at all times.
- Keep all kitchen floors consistently clean and dry.
- Operate industrial dishwashers efficiently and safely.
- Wash, wipe, sort, and stack dishes; manage dishwasher loading and unloading.
- Store all cleaned items securely and in an organized manner.
- Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment according to established procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness of floors and walls within kitchen and dishwashing areas.
- Clean large kitchen equipment as directed.
- Adhere to Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines for the safe use of chemicals.
- Uphold a hygienic working environment in line with company standards.
- Collect and remove trash from all operational areas.
- Dispose of waste, including recycling, in compliance with hotel and regulatory standards.
- Maintain clean and tidy waste bin areas.
- Monitor and manage chemical levels and inventory.
- Remove broken or chipped items and update inventory records.
- Clean, sanitize, and properly close workstations at the end of shifts.
- Report any maintenance or hazard issues directly to the chef.
- Provide assistance with light food preparation when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support kitchen operations.
Skills and Specifications
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Physical capability to bend, lift, reach, and carry heavy loads.
- Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and safety equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend safety materials and workplace documents.
- Flexible to work nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
Qualifications
- Previous cleaning experience is essential.
Working Conditions
- Involves flexible and potentially long working hours.
- Requires medium physical effort, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying.
- Demands standing and walking for prolonged periods or entire shifts.
