Africa Sun Power Limited (AFSP) is a Malawian private entity focused on innovative off-grid solar electric cooking solutions. AFSP has received a CLASP/MECS Venture Building Grant to assess the technical performance, commercial viability, and investability of its battery-enabled Off-Grid Solar E-Cooking Systems (OGSECS).


AFSP is seeking applications from qualified and motivated individuals for the following position:


Position Title: Marketing, Education & Sales Officer


Focus: Off-Grid Solar E-Cooking Systems Demonstration & Sales


Location:


Hardelec House, Victoria Avenue, Blantyre / Njamba, Blantyre. Expect moderate travel to rural communities across Malawi.


Reporting Structure:



  • Administratively: Program Finance & Logistics Manager

  • Technically: Operations Manager


Contract Duration:


A one (1) year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A three (3) month probation period will apply.


Job Purpose:


The Marketing, Education & Sales Officer will be responsible for promoting, educating, and enhancing customer understanding of AFSP’s Off-Grid Solar E-Cooking Systems (OGSECS). This role involves developing marketing and training materials, managing communication channels, coordinating outreach campaigns, and supporting customer engagement and investor storytelling.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Product Documentation & Customer Education: Collaborate with technical teams to create customer documentation for OGSECS; test educational materials with customers and refine based on feedback; ensure the effectiveness of customer training and demonstration materials.

  • Product Publicity & Outreach: Oversee the production of promotional and educational materials (posters, brochures); coordinate media outreach (radio, TV, newspapers); organize participation in exhibitions and events; manage the distribution and quality of promotional items.

  • Website & Social Media Management: Oversee the development and maintenance of the AFSP website; manage social media platforms and digital engagement; coordinate the production of educational and promotional videos.

  • Customer Education Campaigns: Develop and implement train-the-trainer programs; support technician-led customer education during installations and maintenance; track education activities in the AFSP database; evaluate the impact of education programs on product usage.

  • Customer Support & Product Optimization: Develop and document user tips and best practices; support the creation of materials for system upgrades; produce user guides; collaborate with technical teams and Discount Program Officers; analyze customer feedback to enhance educational materials.

  • International Outreach & Storytelling: Support investor and impact credit outreach initiatives; create promotional materials showcasing AFSP’s impact in Malawi; contribute to improving investor pitch materials; disseminate AFSP’s story through digital platforms.

  • Reporting & Coordination: Prepare weekly and monthly reports on customer education activities, product documentation, marketing campaigns, digital engagement metrics, and investor outreach; participate in daily management coordination calls.


Required Skills & Competencies:



  • Strong data management and record-keeping skills.

  • Good understanding of solar energy systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools (Excel, Google Workspace, WhatsApp, etc.).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage field-based activities independently.

  • Creativity in marketing and public engagement.

  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.


Qualifications & Experience:



  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Sales, Economics, Business Management, or a related field.

  • Experience: 3–5 years in marketing, education, or public outreach; solar product promotion or customer engagement; rural or community-based programs. Experience with solar energy systems, customer support, or product education is advantageous.


Additional Requirements:



  • Willingness to travel frequently to rural communities.

  • Basic technical literacy (smartphones, Excel, data tools).
