Position Overview

NHRI is seeking a Clinical Researcher (Level I) to contribute to clinical and implementation research at Salima District Hospital. This full-time role is split equally between clinical service and research activities, reporting administratively and for research to the Executive Director, and clinically to the District Health Officer or District Medical Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Research

• Support the implementation of clinical and implementation research studies.
• Assist with patient recruitment and enrollment.
• Ensure adherence to research protocols and ethical standards.
• Collect and document high-quality clinical and research data.
• Support monitoring, quality assurance, and reporting for research activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams.
• Contribute to research dissemination, including reports and publications.

Clinical Service

• Provide clinical care to patients at Salima District Hospital.
• Support evidence-based clinical practice.
• Participate in ward rounds and patient management.
• Support the integration of research findings into clinical care.
• Collaborate with hospital staff to improve overall quality of care.

Collaboration and Capacity Building

• Work collaboratively with Ministry of Health staff and hospital leadership.
• Support research capacity building within the district health system.
• Mentor students or junior staff involved in research projects.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
• Registration with the Medical Council of Malawi.
• Demonstrated interest in clinical and implementation research.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Desirable

• Experience in clinical or public health research.
• Training in research methods or epidemiology.
• Prior experience working in district hospital settings.
