About the Role
The Malawi Innovations Supervisor (Fixed-Term) will be responsible for overseeing 3-6 Innovations Officers within a specific region. The primary goal is to ensure the correct implementation of agronomic field trials and agricultural product buybacks.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Management: Supervise and manage daily activities, performance, and development of 3-6 Innovations Officers, including setting KPIs, conducting reviews, and leading team meetings.
- Field Supervision: Conduct regular field visits (1-3 days per week) to monitor trial implementation, observe officer performance, provide coaching, engage with farmers, and ensure data accuracy.
- Quality Assurance: Perform field audits to guarantee 100% compliance with trial protocols and buyback quality standards, addressing deviations and mitigating risks promptly.
- Project Management: Lead regional sub-projects, identify operational inefficiencies, and coordinate with internal teams like Logistics and BizOps for smooth produce movement and farmer payment processes.
- Data Management: Monitor data dashboards, resolve data issues, collect and analyze weekly KPIs, and prepare comprehensive weekly reports for management.
- Communication: Serve as a crucial link between the field team and headquarters, ensuring timely information flow and representing field priorities in internal discussions.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Agriculture, Rural/Community Development, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of smallholder farming and experience working in rural communities.
- Proven experience in leading or supervising field staff, including work planning and performance assessment.
- Practical experience in agricultural trials, farmer trainings, surveys, or buybacks.
- Direct experience working with farmers and understanding their challenges.
- Basic knowledge of field operations (e.g., logistics, produce collection, payments) is an advantage.
- Technical Skills:
- Agronomy: Ability to make sound agronomic decisions in trial implementation.
- Experimental Methods: Understanding of best practices in sampling, error, and bias minimization for trials/data collection.
- Spreadsheet Use: Proficiency in building simple models/trackers/dashboards with formulas.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Data & Statistical Analysis: Ability to clean data and use tools like pivot tables.
- Soft Skills: Meeting/group facilitation and strong writing abilities.

This is a fixed-term contract with a duration of 1 year. The role is open exclusively to citizens or permanent residents of Malawi.
