Lotus Africa is looking for a qualified and motivated individual to join their team as an Acid Plant Instrumentation Technician at the Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.

Job Purpose:

This role focuses on the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems vital for monitoring and managing industrial processes. The core objective is to ensure the accuracy, dependability, and proper functioning of all field instruments, analyzers, and control devices, thereby supporting plant performance, safety, and adherence to relevant standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safety: Uphold a zero-incident rate for safety occurrences or near misses through strict adherence to PPE requirements and worksite safety protocols.


• Equipment Uptime: Maintain the highest possible operational availability for engineering systems.


• Maintenance Strategy: Strive for a planned maintenance ratio exceeding 80%.


• Job Documentation: Ensure 100% of job cards are completed and meticulously documented.


• Breakdown Resolution: Minimize the time taken to respond to and rectify equipment breakdowns.


• Downtime Reduction: Actively work to decrease unplanned downtime resulting from equipment failures.


• Work Quality: Ensure high standards in workmanship, verified through inspection and testing results, thereby preventing the need for rework.


• Compliance: Adhere strictly to applicable national electrical codes and industry standards.


• Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors to schedule both routine and non-routine maintenance tasks.


• Pre-Work Checks: Thoroughly review job specifications, work packages, drawings, and instrument procedures before commencing work.


• Preventive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on field instrumentation, transmitters, control valves, and PLC/SCADA interfaces.


• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair instrumentation faults, including issues related to signal transmission, control loops, and sensor failures.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Hold a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or an equivalent or higher educational qualification.


• Possess a recognized Instrument Trade Certificate or an equivalent qualification.


• A minimum of 3 years of relevant trade experience in a fixed/acid plant setting is required.


• A valid driver's license is mandatory.


• Must possess strong English communication skills, both spoken and written.
