Kitchen Assistant

Position Overview
This role is crucial for maintaining personal and kitchen hygiene to ensure a suitable environment for food preparation. Responsibilities include cleaning all kitchen utensils and equipment, serving tea to various stations, tidying serving areas, walls, cupboards, windows, and sinks, as well as assisting the chef with meal preparation and ensuring timely service.
Essential Duties
- Provide assistance to Chefs in meal preparation.
- Ensure that both the kitchen and serving areas are maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
- Support the chef in serving meals to staff, patients, and their guardians.
- Unload equipment and food supplies upon delivery and maintain organization within the storeroom.
- Perform basic cleaning tasks efficiently and promptly.
- Collect and wash pots and pans.
- Clean crockery and cutlery, ensuring all food preparation surfaces are clean and ready for use.
Other Duties
- Contribute to the daily preparation of meals.
- Prioritize daily personal hygiene and the cleanliness of serving areas.
- Ensure all cooking utensils are readily available and sufficiently clean for Chefs' use.
- Conduct daily cleaning of all kitchen utensils and equipment, with weekly attention to walls and cupboards.
- Adhere to all Food Safety, Storage, and Hygiene protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements
The ideal candidate for the Kitchen Assistant position will possess the following:
- A post-secondary qualification in Housekeeping or a related field.
- A certificate in cookery will be considered an advantage.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a busy kitchen environment, preferably within a hospital setting.
- A willingness to learn and a compassionate heart for service.
