Mzuzu University (MZUNI) is a Public University established by the Laws of Malawi Cap 30:09 (Mzuzu University Act No. 12 of 1997). Currently, the University has six faculties of Education; Environmental Sciences; Health Sciences; Tourism, Hospitality and Management; Science, Technology and Innovation; and Humanities and Social Sciences. It is a dual mode University offering its courses through face-to-face and Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) teaching and learning modes. It also offers some of its programmes on block, weekend and vacation release.
The University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions:
a. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Human Anatomy and Physiology (1 position)
Applicants must have a PhD or Master’s Degree in Human Anatomy and Physiology plus a Bachelor’s degree with at least an upper second class or credit in: Biological Sciences, Zoology, Veterinary Medicine, Human Medicine or Parasitology and Disease Vector Control or related field.
Preference: Teaching experience in Veterinary Parasitology, Pharmacology, General Pathology and Hematology.
b. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Plant Systematics (1 position)
Applicants must have a PhD or Master’s Degree in Plant Taxonomy and Systematics plus a Bachelor’s degree (upper second class or credit) in: Biological Sciences, Biodiversity Conservation and Management, Botany, Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science or related fields.
Preference: Knowledge of Plant Form and Function, Plant Ecology, Plant Anatomy, Plant Evolution, Ethnobotany and Conservation Biology.
Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics and ICT Infrastructure and Cloud Computing (1 position)
Qualifications:
PhD or Master of Science in ICT, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics, ICT Infrastructure Management, or Information Systems plus a Bachelor’s degree (upper second class or credit) in related fields.
Expertise areas:
Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics
ICT Infrastructure and Cloud Computing
Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Chemistry (1 position)
Qualifications:
PhD or Master of Science in Chemistry or closely related field plus a Bachelor’s degree (upper second class or credit) in Chemistry or related field.
Preferred expertise:
Analytical chemistry, Environmental chemistry, Material chemistry, Nanotechnology, Food chemistry, Chemical toxicology, Industrial chemistry, Green chemistry, Natural products and Medicinal chemistry.
Research experience and supervision of student projects are an added advantage.
Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) (1 position)
Requirements:
PhD or Master’s degree plus a Bachelor’s degree (upper second class or credit) in ESP or related field.
Must demonstrate teaching and professional experience in academic writing, professional communication, applied language studies, and ability to design ESP courses for diverse disciplines.
a. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Curriculum Studies in Geography (1 position)
PhD or Master of Education in Curriculum Studies or Teacher Education (Geography Education) plus Bachelor of Education (Geography) with credit or upper second class.
b. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Curriculum Studies in Theology/Religious Studies (1 position)
PhD or Master of Education in Curriculum Studies or Teacher Education (Theology/Religious Studies) plus Bachelor of Education (Theology) with credit or upper second class.
a. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Forest Biology (1 position)
PhD or Master of Science in Forestry (Forest Biology/Botany/Microbiology bias) plus Bachelor’s degree with credit.
Expected to teach Forest Biology, Botany, Biochemistry.
b. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Forest Science (1 position)
PhD or Master of Science in Forestry or related field plus Bachelor’s degree (upper second class or credit).
Expected to teach Wood Science, Forest Science, Forest Ecology and Environmental Management.
c. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Forest Protection (1 position)
PhD or Master of Science in Forestry or related field plus Bachelor’s degree (upper second class or credit).
Expected to teach Forest Entomology and Forest Pathology.
d. Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Forest Soils (1 position)
PhD or Master of Science in Forestry, Soil Science, Agronomy or Agroforestry plus Bachelor’s degree (upper second class or credit).
Bachelor’s degree holders only may be considered for Staff Associate.
Two (2) years of teaching experience at tertiary level is an added advantage.
Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate courses
Develop and teach new courses
Supervise research projects
Participate in scholarly activities
Serve on University Committees
Undertake other assigned duties
Teamwork
Progressive subject knowledge
Interest in teaching and interdisciplinary research
Evidence of scholarly publications (for Senior Lecturer and above)
