Assignment Description

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme champions volunteerism for peace and development globally. Volunteerism drives progress and benefits both society and the individual. UNV advocates for volunteerism, encourages its integration into development programs, and mobilizes volunteers. UN Volunteers contribute to development and peace alongside colleagues, host agencies, and local communities. They promote volunteerism through their actions and conduct, enriching their understanding of local realities and fostering connections within host communities.

Assignment Context

Due to the absence of a dedicated communications officer, this role will provide essential media expertise to enhance UNV Malawi's social media presence and overall communication output.

Task Details

The volunteer will provide crucial graphic design support to UNV Malawi, with a primary focus on creating impactful posters and engaging social media content. Key responsibilities include:

• Poster Design: Develop compelling posters that effectively communicate UNV's messages, events, campaigns, or initiatives. This involves close collaboration with the team to understand project requirements, target audiences, and desired messaging, while creatively adhering to brand guidelines.
• Social Media Content Creation: Design visually appealing graphics, infographics, banners, cover photos, and other assets for UNV's social media platforms, aligning with the social media strategy. The volunteer is expected to produce a minimum of 4 posters or infographics weekly, based on the content plan. Collaboration with the social media volunteer will be key to refining ideas and enhancing UNV Malawi's online presence.

Assignment Requirements

Required Experience

• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop for graphic creation, image manipulation, and visual content design.
• Experience with Adobe Illustrator or Canva, or similar applications, is highly desirable for creating vector graphics, illustrations, and designs.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent in graphic design, media studies, visual communication, or a related field is preferred.
• A strong understanding of design principles, layout composition, typography, and color theory.
