Unitrans Malawi Limited, a prominent employer in the sugar and agriculture sector, is seeking a qualified Malawian national to fill a vacant position at its Dwangwa Depot in Nkhota-kota.
Position: Diesel Mechanic
Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the successful candidate will undertake the following duties:
- Perform scheduled servicing of company vehicles according to established standards and checklists.
- Respond to breakdowns and carry out necessary repairs promptly.
- Apply health and safety regulations in all aspects of the job.
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition, compliant with traffic regulations and company policy.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times.
- Provide regular updates to management on breakdowns, services, and other relevant mechanical activities.
- Execute other duties related to automobile mechanics as assigned.
Applicant Specifications
- A minimum of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).
- A Grade 1 National Trade Test Certificate (or equivalent from a recognized institution) demonstrating competence in Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
- A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in a similar role within a busy organization.
- Experience repairing heavy plant machinery, such as Caterpillars, John Deere, JCB, and Excavators, and possessing multi-skilling will be advantageous.
- A thorough understanding and application of preventive maintenance practices.
- Ability to work independently and effectively resolve automobile mechanical issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Capacity to work in shifts with minimal or no supervision.
