Position Overview:
These Programme Intern positions are based at the UNFPA Malawi Country Office in Lilongwe. Reporting directly to the relevant team Programme Analysts, the interns will provide essential technical, administrative, and logistical support to expedite the implementation of the 9th Country Programme Document (CPD). Their contributions will be crucial in bolstering interventions focused on youth, gender, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), while also enhancing strategic visual communications and digital visibility efforts to amplify UNFPA's mission and impact.
The interns will offer operational support for the design and execution of advocacy initiatives, workshops, and community engagement activities aimed at tackling critical issues such as high teenage pregnancy rates, child marriage, and gender-based violence (GBV). Key responsibilities include documenting best practices, contributing to research on emerging trends, and developing inclusive digital content to influence public perception and garner support for the ICPD agenda. They will foster collaborative relationships across all thematic teams to ensure the effective delivery of transformative results and uphold the Country Office's commitment to inclusivity.
How You Can Make a Difference:
UNFPA stands as the leading United Nations agency dedicated to achieving a world where every pregnancy is planned, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is realized. The UNFPA Strategic Plan for 2026-2029 outlines the organization's response to a complex global landscape, serving as a blueprint for resilience and renewal. This plan aims to accelerate the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. This mandate is pursued through a focus on four interconnected outcomes: ending the unmet need for family planning; ending preventable maternal deaths; ending gender-based violence and harmful practices; and adapting to demographic change via evidence- and rights-based policies.
In an era where fundamental human rights face increasing risks, UNFPA requires principled and ethical staff members who embody these international norms and standards and are prepared to defend them with courage and conviction.
UNFPA is actively seeking candidates who can drive transformation, inspire action, and deliver high-impact, sustainable results. Successful candidates will excel in external relations, communications, partnership building, and resource mobilization within a rapidly evolving development and funding environment. We value transparency, exceptional resource management, and a commitment to delivering excellence in programme outcomes.
