About Urunji Child-Care Trust

Imagine leveraging your network, experience, and influence to significantly improve the lives of thousands of children and families facing extreme poverty. Urunji Child-Care Trust, a Malawian charitable organisation, is dedicated to empowering communities to escape such hardship. Our impactful programs address critical needs in children's education and nutrition, girls' empowerment, regenerative agriculture, women's livelihoods, access to clean water, and youth skills development.

Our work is deeply embedded in rural communities where educational access, adequate nutrition, clean water, and sustainable livelihoods remain significant challenges. We are actively seeking an exceptional, well-connected, and results-oriented Global Resource Mobilisation Partner to help us secure international philanthropic support, corporate partnerships, and in-kind donations to amplify our reach and impact.

This role is ideal for an accomplished fundraiser, philanthropic advisor, corporate partnership specialist, or influential professional eager to apply their expertise and connections to drive meaningful social change.

The Opportunity

Our goal is to forge enduring relationships with philanthropists, foundations, corporations, high-net-worth individuals, and other potential supporters across North America and Europe. We seek a partner who can effectively access these networks, identify new avenues for support, and transform promising connections into tangible resources for our vital programs.

We are particularly keen to engage with individuals who understand the motivations behind major donor decisions, excel at cultivating strategic partnerships, and possess a proven ability to mobilise substantial resources for charitable initiatives.

A fundamental requirement for this role is a demonstrable history of raising a minimum of US$250,000 for a charitable organisation.

We encourage professionals who may not be actively seeking traditional employment to consider lending their valuable expertise, relationships, and influence to a profoundly impactful cause.

What You Will Do

Collaborating virtually with Urunji's leadership team in Malawi, you will:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive international resource mobilisation strategy aligned with Urunji's strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate introductions between Urunji and prospective major donors, philanthropists, family foundations, corporate sponsors, and institutional partners.
  • Identify and nurture relationships with the potential to yield significant financial contributions and long-term collaborative ventures.
  • Secure corporate social responsibility partnerships, sponsorships, matching-gift opportunities, and various other forms of philanthropic engagement.
  • Mobilise in-kind donations, including essential resources like computers, solar equipment, educational materials, bicycles, agricultural inputs, and other items critical to our programs.
  • Uncover opportunities for strategic alliances with international charities, foundations, and businesses.
  • Provide strategic counsel to Urunji on optimising its program positioning to attract international philanthropic and corporate interest.
  • Contribute to donor engagement efforts, partnership negotiations, and the creation of compelling fundraising proposals.
  • Establish clear, measurable fundraising targets and provide regular reporting on progress, secured commitments, and mobilised resources.

You will have the autonomy to utilise your professional network, unique experience, and preferred fundraising methodologies, working in close collaboration with Urunji's leadership.

Who We Are Looking For

We are searching for an individual who blends sophisticated fundraising acumen with a strong capacity for relationship building and strategic influence. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A verifiable track record of securing at least US$250,000 for a registered charity or nonprofit organisation.
  • Established connections with philanthropists, major donors, corporate leaders, foundations, or other significant sources of charitable funding.
  • Proven experience in major-donor fundraising, philanthropic advisory, corporate partnerships, nonprofit development, or resource mobilisation.
  • Exceptional skills in relationship cultivation, communication, negotiation, and strategic foresight.
  • The ability to identify opportunities, facilitate impactful introductions, and translate connections into measurable outcomes.
  • A profound commitment to poverty reduction, child welfare, education, women's empowerment, or sustainable community development.
  • The capacity for independent work while fostering effective collaboration with a team based in Malawi.

Candidates must be prepared to provide evidence of their personal contributions to past fundraising achievements. References and other appropriate verification methods will be required.

What Makes This Opportunity Different?

This is more than a typical fundraising position; it's a chance to help a grassroots African organisation access the global resources necessary to enact lasting transformation. You will work directly with Urunji's leadership and witness firsthand how mobilised resources translate into tangible benefits for children, families, and entire communities.

Your involvement could directly contribute to providing school meals, enabling girls to continue their education, equipping young people with vital employment skills, strengthening women's economic independence, enhancing food security, and expanding access to clean water.

We are especially interested in cultivating a relationship with an individual who envisions a sustained, long-term partnership rather than a transactional fundraising engagement.

Compensation and Partnership Arrangements

We understand that experienced fundraising professionals offer diverse expertise, networks, and working preferences. Therefore, we are open to discussing a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Depending on the candidate's experience, proposed contributions, and relevant legal frameworks, potential arrangements include:

  • A consultancy arrangement heavily weighted towards performance outcomes.
  • A modest retainer complemented by agreed-upon performance incentives, contingent upon available resources.
  • Fixed-fee engagements for specific fundraising or partnership-development projects.
  • Any other transparent and legally compliant structure proposed by the candidate.

We warmly welcome proposals from professionals interested in contributing their expertise on a flexible basis.

Any compensation tied to fundraising results will be subject to all applicable laws, professional standards, donor stipulations, and the terms of funding agreements.

How to Express Interest

If you possess the requisite experience, network, and passion to assist Urunji in mobilising international resources, we eagerly await your application. Please submit the following documents to info@urunjichildcare.org:

  1. A concise professional profile or curriculum vitae (CV).
  2. Evidence substantiating your fundraising track record, detailing your role in securing at least US$250,000 for a charitable organisation.
