About
The Laboratory Technician will support effective teaching and learning of science subjects by managing laboratory operations, preparing practical materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety standards in school laboratories.
Key Duties
- Prepare laboratory apparatus, chemicals, and materials for practical lessons
- Assist teachers and students during experiments and demonstrations
- Set up experiments and support internal practical examinations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratories
- Manage storage and inventory of chemicals and equipment
- Monitor stock levels and prepare requisitions
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures
- Handle and dispose of chemicals safely
- Maintain safety equipment (first aid kits, fire extinguishers)
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment
- Maintain laboratory records, stock registers, and reports
- Support science teachers, students, and school science activities
Qualifications
- Diploma in Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution
- Registered with Medical Council of Malawi
- Minimum 2 years’ laboratory experience (education setting is an advantage)
- Knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics laboratory procedures
- Strong equipment handling and maintenance skills
- Good record-keeping and inventory management skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Basic computer literacy is an added advantage
