About
The regional project “Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa” (WE4D) aims to improve women’s employment opportunities, especially in green sectors and in companies and value chains that are driving the green transformation on the African continent. This is achieved via supporting market-oriented education and training, measures to improve the transition to the labour market, foster employment in value chains and improving the competitiveness of start-ups and MSMEs. The project is active in Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Senegal, South África, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda. WE4D is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-funded by Norway and the European Union (EU). The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is responsible for project implementation.
Key Duties
- Provide strategic and technical support in Private Sector Development.
- Manage partnership projects and interventions, advising on green skills development, entrepreneurship, and matching initiatives with a focus on women, youth, and Persons with Disabilities.
- Promote cooperation with the private sector and other key stakeholders from training institutions, civil society, government, and international cooperation for the creation of green jobs for women.
- Manage internal and external communication for WE4D Malawi, including knowledge management and support for partnership project communication.
- Steer a service contract on communications and coordinate with consultants on communication activities.
- Enhance project visibility by supporting the organization of events and PR-related activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (business administration, technical education, gender studies, agriculture, communications, public relations, or other programme-related discipline). Additional qualifications in development cooperation, TVET, employment promotion, and/or private sector development are an asset.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Excellent language skills in English and Chichewa.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in employment promotion and private sector development with a focus on women.
- Experience in communications and/or marketing, public relations, and knowledge of relevant forums & media on national and regional levels are an asset.
- Experience in partnerships with the private sector and in working with training institutions.
- Experience in international cooperation; experience in promoting gender equality, women economic empowerment, and green transformation.
- Sector experience in green sectors (renewable energy, waste management/circular economy, sustainable agriculture) or greening sectors (green approaches in transport and logistics or construction).
- Experience in moderation and facilitation of processes, workshops, and events.
- Good knowledge of approaches to promote gender equality and green transformation.
- Teamwork and ability to work in multi-cultural teams across countries.
- Strong networking skills.
- Initiative, proactive, and working under minimum supervision.
- Management and advisory skills and strategic thinking.
- Strong sense for aesthetics of visual products.
