The Malawi-Liverpool-Welcome Research Programme (MLW), in partnership with the Civic Health Innovation Labs (CHIL) and the University of Liverpool, is recruiting for a Senior Lecturer in Mathematical Modelling of Global Health.

MLW is a leading health research institution dedicated to improving global health through research, capacity building, and robust partnerships.

Position: Senior Lecturer in Mathematical Modelling of Global Health

The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and leading a new Data Science and Computational Modelling Unit (DSCMU) comprised of mathematical modellers.

Job Purpose

This role entails leading and delivering world-class research in health protection data science through mathematical modelling. The Senior Lecturer will be a respected authority in their field, expected to:

• Establish and lead a team of mathematical modellers at MLW.
• Provide strategic leadership in their specialization, demonstrating a strong history of interdisciplinary, team-based research with publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Show a proven ability to secure external funding from diverse sources.
• Identify new interdisciplinary research opportunities and expand funding streams to ensure sustained success.
• Effectively communicate research findings to various stakeholders, including decision-makers, media, and the public.
• Cultivate and strengthen regional and international partnerships in the field.
• Design and deliver teaching and training programs for staff and students.
• Champion the role of modelling among MLW, national, regional, and global collaborators.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience Requirements

• A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is required.
• As a member of the academic staff, the post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching activities. A formal teaching qualification will be required, or must be obtained through the University.
