About This Role

GiveDirectly is embarking on a significant growth phase and seeks a Flex Senior Manager to spearhead programming across our operational countries. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in identifying new business prospects, cultivating partnerships, and overseeing the design, launch, and management of both new and existing programs. This presents a unique opportunity to drive innovation and impact within the cash transfer sector, an area currently receiving unprecedented global attention.

Travel: Extensive travel is expected, potentially on short notice, with significant time spent in any of GiveDirectly’s countries of operation. The estimated travel requirement is approximately 50-60%.

What You’ll Do

End-to-End Project Management

• Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure successful execution from initiation to completion.
• Design operational frameworks for new initiatives, meticulously evaluating the trade-offs inherent in various design choices, such as targeting strategies, payment mechanisms, and customer service models.
• Establish, monitor, and report on key operational and efficiency metrics.
• Proactively identify operational risks, including fraud and brand reputational threats, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
• Provide direct supervision to multi-tiered teams responsible for field staff recruitment and management, operational quality assurance, and business diligence support.

Project and People Management

• Lead diverse, cross-functional project teams, effectively managing internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality project delivery.
• Directly manage one or more Managers, guiding them to achieve excellence in operations and programming.
• Cultivate a strong team culture that deeply reflects GiveDirectly’s values and actively foster and develop exceptional talent.
• Build and maintain robust, high-quality relationships with donors and operational partners.
• Drive clear communication and alignment among a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including GiveDirectly senior leadership, donors, operational partners, researchers, and payment providers.

New Business Development

• Contribute significantly to project design and manage the execution of new opportunities.
• Conduct thorough market assessments, including operational diligence, feasibility studies, and risk evaluations for pilot projects and incoming proposals.
• Identify and pursue fundraising opportunities for new program development.
• Collaborate with the partnerships team to create compelling content that advances donor engagement and positions GiveDirectly as a leader in the global cash assistance space.

What You’ll Bring

• A minimum of 4-7 years of professional experience in roles requiring significant problem-solving, such as field management, consulting, or analytics.

• Superior communication skills, encompassing effective speaking, writing, presentation, and negotiation abilities across diverse audiences.
• A genuine enthusiasm for dynamic environments where established playbooks may be absent and significant learning occurs through hands-on experience.
• The resourcefulness to approach tasks with initiative and the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
• The capability to manage immediate operational needs while simultaneously developing more efficient and resilient systems.
• Proven experience and a high level of comfort working in developing countries or high-risk settings.

Desired Skills and Experiences

• A strong understanding of the operational context in our countries of operation is highly preferred.
• Experience working in conflict-affected regions.
• Fluency in additional GiveDirectly working languages, such as French or Portuguese.

Compensation

GiveDirectly is committed to offering generous and equitable compensation to all employees. We utilize an accredited third-party salary aggregator to determine competitive pay based on the role, location, and cost of living. Our policy prohibits negotiation to ensure fairness across all positions. You can learn more about our compensation philosophy here.

Unless otherwise specified, the benefits stipend can be utilized for benefits or taken as additional taxable income.

United States

• Base Salary: $109,200
• Bonus at Target Performance: 10% (of Base Salary)
• Annual Benefits Stipend: $21,393

Kenya

• Base Salary: $77,500
• Bonus at Target Performance: 10% (of Base Salary)
• Annual Benefits Stipend: $8,453
