180.works is a leading organization implementing innovative clean cooking and carbon finance
programs in Malawi. Our mission is to improve household energy access, reduce deforestation,
and generate high-integrity carbon credits that support sustainable development. We work
closely with communities, local government, and international partners to deliver measurable
impact.
The District Liaison Officer (DLO) will serve as the primary link between 180.works, district
authorities, community leadership, and project beneficiaries. The role is central to ensuring
smooth implementation of cookstove and carbon activities at district level, building trust with
stakeholders, and safeguarding the credibility of carbon credits.
• Represent 180.works at district level, acting as the official point of contact.
• Build strong relationships with District Councils, Environmental Offices, Forestry, Energy,
and Gender departments.
• Secure local approvals, endorsements, and letters of support for project activities.
• Participate in district technical working groups, planning forums, and coordination
meetings.
• Lead sensitisation campaigns to promote cookstove adoption and climate awareness.
• Coordinate with Traditional Authorities, ADCs, and VDCs to plan stove installation.
• Ensure correct targeting of households in line with eligibility criteria.
• Support stove installation, user training, and after-sales follow-up.
• Address community complaints, resistance, or misinformation proactively.
• Assist with Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV) activities required for carbon
credits.
• Support household registration, GPS tagging, surveys, and stove usage tracking.
• Conduct spot checks to verify stove use and report cases of non-use or misuse.
• Ensure accurate data collection and timely reporting to central systems.
• Prepare weekly and monthly district reports covering distribution progress, adoption
rates, challenges, and community feedback.
• Maintain district records and registers for stove installation and usage.
• Support audits, donor visits, and verification missions with accurate documentation.
• Identify political, cultural, or operational risks at district level.
• Ensure compliance with local government requirements, safeguarding standards, and
environmental/social safeguards.
• Act immediately on grievances or misconduct following project procedures.
• Diploma or Degree in Development Studies, Environmental Management, Social Sciences,
Natural Resources, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working with NGOs, development projects, or
community-based programmes.
• Strong knowledge of district government systems and community mobilisation in Malawi.
• Experience in energy, climate, forestry, or livelihoods projects is an added advantage.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability to engage communities and manage multiple stakeholders.
• Basic data collection, reporting, and IT literacy.
• High integrity, professionalism, and ability to work independently in rural areas.
• Willingness to travel extensively within the district.
• Must be currently based and willing to operate from the specified district.
• Must be in possession of own functioning smart phone/tablet/laptop or similar device for
remote data collection and reporting.
