Africa Sun Power Limited (AFSP) is a Malawian private entity dedicated to implementing innovative off-grid solar electric cooking solutions. AFSP has secured a CLASP/MECS Venture Building Grant to evaluate the technical performance, commercial viability, and investability of its battery-enabled Off-Grid Solar E-Cooking Systems (OGSECS).
As part of this program, AFSP is establishing a customer monitoring and carbon credit reporting system. This system will track energy usage and facilitate performance-based incentives for customers.
AFSP invites applications from qualified and enthusiastic candidates for the following position:
Position Title: Customer Data & Program Officer
Focus: Off-Grid Solar E-Cooking System Data Collection & Monitoring
Location:
Hardelec House, Victoria Avenue, Blantyre / Njamba, Blantyre. Moderate travel to rural communities across Malawi is expected.
Reporting Structure:
- Administratively: Program Finance & Logistics Manager
- Technically: Operations Manager
Contract Duration:
A one (1) year contract, renewable based on funding availability and performance. A three (3) month probation period applies.
Job Purpose:
The Customer Data & Program Officer will oversee customer data systems and support the implementation of AFSP’s solar electric cooking monitoring and discount program. Key duties include collecting, verifying, and managing customer usage data, supporting customer engagement, and ensuring accurate tracking of energy consumption for carbon credit allocation, incentives, and program reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Database Management: Establish and maintain a comprehensive customer database; keep accurate records for program and non-program customers; ensure data security and integrity; capture customer details (location, system configuration, usage history); conduct regular data cleaning and audits.
- Data Collection & Monitoring: Collect customer energy usage data using digital tools, device data cards, and field visits; verify and validate data accuracy and completeness; monitor customer submission compliance and identify data gaps; generate reports on usage trends and program performance.
- Customer Engagement & Support: Act as the primary contact for program participants; follow up with customers who miss data submissions; provide basic technical guidance and user support; educate customers on system usage, program benefits, and carbon credit incentives.
- Carbon Credit & Incentive Tracking: Support the development and application of carbon credit allocation formulas; maintain accurate records linking usage data to incentive calculations; track and manage customer rewards and discount allocations; assist customers in redeeming earned benefits.
- Program Administration: Support the onboarding of new customers; maintain accurate program documentation; monitor compliance with program rules; coordinate with technical teams on meter installation and functionality.
- Compliance & Exit Management: Monitor inactive or non-compliant customers; manage forfeiture processes; maintain records of forfeited credits; report on compliance trends and recommend improvements.
- Reporting & Coordination: Prepare weekly and monthly reports on customer onboarding/exits, data submission compliance, program performance, and carbon credit tracking; coordinate with technical, finance, and program teams; support donor reporting requirements.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong data management and record-keeping abilities.
- Understanding of data collection systems and processes.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, WhatsApp, and digital data tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently in rural field settings.
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- High level of integrity and accountability.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 1–2 years in data collection or database management; fieldwork experience in rural or community-based programs. Experience in solar energy, clean cooking systems, or carbon credit programs is advantageous.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel frequently to rural communities.
- Basic technical literacy (smartphones, Excel, data tools).
- Ability to ride a motorbike is an advantage (not mandatory).
