Our Malawi program, launched in 2016, serves over 670,000 farmers with quality farm supplies and training. Our Malawi office is situated in Zomba, in the southern region of the country. One Acre Fund's operations are concentrated in Malawi's southern region, an area with the highest density of smallholder farmers nationwide.

About the Role

Take the lead of our case investigation unit. We are searching for an experienced professional to manage audit execution, advance fraud prevention initiatives, and strengthen internal controls. This role is pivotal for maintaining the integrity of our programs and advancing our mission to support farmers.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership and Development: Supervise a team of 4-5 audit officers, conducting regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and targeted professional development to ensure high morale and performance.


• Audit Operations Oversight: Develop the annual risk-based audit plan, manage weekly team capacity, and prioritize urgent ad-hoc requests for fraud or harassment investigations.


• Quality Assurance: Perform weekly quality assessments of reports, conduct field investigation shadowing, and offer direct coaching to address service delivery gaps.


• Investigation and Controls Enhancement: Protect the program by investigating staff and farmer fraud, client harassment, and "ghost farmer" schemes, while continuously reinforcing internal control frameworks.


• Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Partner with the HR department on cash recovery efforts, support Global Legal teams with high-priority investigations, and collaborate with Field Operations on anti-fraud campaigns.


• Data Management and Reporting: Consolidate monthly audit reports for stakeholders, maintain country and global tracking systems, and contribute data to the Global Client Protection Heatmap.


• Framework Development: Work closely with the Business Operations Lead to transition the team from traditional repayment audits to a specialized case investigation unit.

Qualifications

While we look for a range of qualifications across all roles, this specific position requires:

• Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Auditing, Accounting, or a closely related field.


• Experience: A minimum of 2 years demonstrating a strong track record in internal/external auditing, risk-based audit planning, and compliance monitoring.


• Technical Expertise: A profound understanding of internal control frameworks and proven techniques for fraud investigation.


• Data Proficiency: Basic to intermediate SQL skills, coupled with proficiency in at least one Business Intelligence/visualization tool (e.g., Power BI, Superset).


• Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional analytical thinking, meticulous attention to detail, and robust team leadership capabilities.
