Nthowa Livelihoods (NL) is a registered, youth-led local non-governmental organization in Malawi, dedicated to enhancing rural livelihoods. Our mission is advanced through initiatives in climate-smart agriculture, environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, financial inclusion, health programs, and educational support. Collaborating closely with community leaders, farmer groups, youth networks, and government extension services, NL fosters sustainable economic development and strengthens climate resilience across local communities.

In line with its continued growth and expansion, Nthowa Livelihoods is seeking to recruit three (3) committed volunteers to bolster its programs and organizational development.

Field Officer (Volunteer) – 2 Positions

Organization: Nthowa Livelihoods (NL)

Duty Stations: Champhira (1 Position) and Luviri (1 Position), Mzimba South District

Reporting to: Executive Director / Program Coordinator

Contract: Volunteer (12 months, renewable based on performance and funding availability)

Role Summary

The Field Officer (Volunteer) will play a crucial role in supporting the execution of community-based programs. These initiatives span climate-smart agriculture, irrigation farming, youth enterprise development, financial inclusion, market systems development, post-harvest management, and strengthening community resilience. This role serves as the primary community liaison for Nthowa Livelihoods in the designated area, requiring close collaboration with youth groups, farmer clubs, schools, traditional leaders, and government extension officers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of climate-smart agriculture and irrigation farming activities.
  • Facilitate the establishment of youth groups, community mobilization efforts, and local training sessions.
  • Aid in enhancing market access and developing value chains for farmer groups.
  • Promote Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and deliver financial literacy training.
  • Encourage best practices in post-harvest handling and agribusiness skills.
  • Contribute to environmental awareness campaigns, educational programs, and youth leadership development.
  • Gather monitoring data and compile monthly activity reports.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Applicants must reside in Champhira or Luviri, Mzimba South District.
  • A Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Community Development, Environmental Studies, Education, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated understanding of climate-smart agriculture and community development methodologies.
  • Excellent skills in community mobilization and facilitation.
  • Fundamental abilities in report writing and data collection.
  • Capable of working autonomously with limited oversight.
  • Possession of a personal smartphone and laptop is essential.
