Job Title: Corporate Manager

Direct Reports: Tax & Accounting Leader, Accountant, HR & Administrative Leader


JOB PURPOSE


Provide strategic oversight for finance, human resources, compliance, and administration to support sustainable growth and operational efficiency. This role demands both strategic planning and hands-on execution to enhance corporate governance, organizational effectiveness, and risk management throughout WASSHA Malawi.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Managerial Duties:



  • Oversee the operations of the Accounting department.

  • Lead and manage the HR & Administration department.


Functional Duties:


Tax & Accounting:


  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of monthly financial close processes, including the preparation of financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, etc.) in accordance with WASSHA group timelines.

  • Verify the timely filing of all statutory obligations (NSSF, PAYE, VAT, WHT, LST) by the accountant to prevent penalties.

  • Approve and oversee the timely processing of all payments, including bank communications.

  • Liaise with the WASSHA Group tax and accounting teams as required.

  • Direct and manage the Tax and Accounting department's activities.

  • Lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.

  • Ensure adherence to IFRS, GAAP, and group reporting standards.

  • Implement robust internal controls, fraud detection mechanisms, and risk management policies to protect company assets.

  • Facilitate external audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings.

  • Develop and optimize workflows for the accounting process, leveraging software like QuickBooks and Jobcan.

  • Monitor the necessity for and ensure timely approval and follow-through on all financial transactions.

  • Coordinate with external parties including auditors, bankers, and lawyers, aligning strategies with the General Manager and Headquarters.


Human Resources:


  • Collaborate with the General Manager to develop and implement HR plans that align with company strategy.

  • Identify HR gaps in collaboration with department heads and communicate proposed solutions to the General Manager.

  • Manage the recruitment process to ensure fairness and efficiency, attracting and retaining qualified individuals who meet job requirements.

  • Oversee the employee evaluation process and facilitate career development plans to maximize staff potential in line with company growth.

  • Align HR initiatives with the WASSHA group HR strategy under the guidance of the General Manager.

  • Drive succession planning and talent pipeline development for leadership continuity.

  • Foster an inclusive and engaging work culture that upholds WASSHA values.

  • Direct and manage the HR & Admin department on all related functions.

  • Proactively address and manage compliance issues, including workplace conduct and harassment.


General Role:


  • Implement preventive and pre-emptive measures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment, both physically and mentally.

  • Ensure workplace safety in office and field environments.

  • Cultivate a positive mental work environment and ensure compliance from both the company and its employees.

  • Collaborate effectively with all departments, including the Operational Manager and other leaders, to maintain seamless communication.

  • Establish and train teams as needed, and conduct training for employees on specific workflows and procedures.

  • Develop and enforce comprehensive finance, HR, and compliance policies.


Administration:


  • Manage legal risks and ensure compliance with Malawi's Company Law.

  • Oversee office supplies and ensure the smooth operation of the office and company logistics.

  • Manage employee and office logistics as required.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Academic & Professional Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance or a related field (MBA is advantageous).

  • Full membership with CPA/ACCA.


Experience:



  • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience, with at least 3 years in an accounting manager role or higher within a corporate setting.

COMPETENCIES


Technical:



  • Proficient knowledge of tax, accounting, HR, and administration regulations.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

  • Excellent report writing capabilities.

  • Effective presentation skills.


Functional:



  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant peripheral laws, including Malawi's Company Law.

  • In-depth knowledge of Malawi Tax and Companies Acts.

  • Familiarity with accounting principles (IFRS and local GAAP).


Behavioral:



  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.

  • Proactive and strategic thinking with the ability to propose and discuss procedures effectively.

  • Ability to collaborate harmoniously with other departments to achieve organizational goals.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and adapting to new skills and company directions.
