Mzuzu University (MZUNI) established the Mzuzu University Trust Fund in 1997 to foster self-sustenance and manage business and commercial transactions. The Trust Fund operates as a legal mechanism for the University's dealings with public and private sectors. A rare opportunity is available to join the University’s Trust Fund Secretariat in Mzuzu.

Position Summary: Trust Fund Accountant

Reporting to the Trust Fund Manager, the Trust Fund Accountant will be responsible for managing all financial transactions, ensuring accurate and up-to-date financial records for the Trust Fund, and providing comprehensive financial analysis and reporting to management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee financial operations of the Trust Fund and its business units, including budgeting, forecasting, and accounting.
• Collaborate closely with the management team to achieve financial goals.
• Prepare budgets and financial reports for management review.
• Review and analyze financial statements.
• Ensure strict compliance with all financial regulations.
• Review and approve financial statements.
• Guarantee the accuracy of all financial transactions.
• Supervise the preparation of annual budgets.
• Monitor actual financial results against budgeted amounts.
• Provide financial analysis and advice to management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Over 3 years of experience in a busy accounting or finance field is an added advantage.

Competencies and Personal Attributes

• Excellent quantitative, analytical, organizational, and presentation skills, with proficiency in relevant computer application packages.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
• Ability to work independently and accurately, meeting established deadlines.
