Role Overview: Hairdressing and Cosmetology Trainer

We are seeking a full-time, on-site Hairdressing and Cosmetology Trainer to join our team in Lunzu, Blantyre. This pivotal role involves the meticulous planning and effective delivery of both practical and theoretical instruction in hairdressing and foundational cosmetology. You will guide youth participants through structured curricula and hands-on demonstrations, overseeing practice sessions and ensuring the safe, proper use of all tools and products. A key aspect of this position is providing individualized coaching to foster learner confidence and develop essential employability skills. Daily responsibilities include preparing training materials, evaluating learner progress, maintaining training equipment and supplies, and embodying professional customer service standards. The trainer will collaborate closely with program staff to integrate training objectives with broader mentorship and economic empowerment goals, potentially supporting graduates with job placement or entrepreneurship ventures.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a Diploma in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy or a recognized Cosmetology License from a TEVET-accredited institution. Alternatively, a high-level technical certification, such as Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas, will be considered.


• Demonstrated in-depth understanding of Hair Care principles, encompassing healthy hair maintenance, appropriate product selection, and stringent hygiene protocols.


• Solid foundational knowledge in Cosmetology, including basic skin and nail care techniques, grooming practices, and overall presentation.


• Proven aptitude in Customer Service, encompassing professional client engagement, effective consultation methods, and adherence to salon etiquette.


• Previous experience in delivering vocational or skills-based training, ideally to youth or individuals from diverse backgrounds.


• Capability to develop comprehensive lesson plans, accurately assess learner progress, and adapt instructional approaches to accommodate varied learning styles.


• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a steadfast commitment to inclusive, respectful, and gender-neutral engagement.


• Strong organizational abilities and a reliable approach to managing schedules, maintaining accurate records, and overseeing training tools and spaces.
