Our esteemed client, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing education systems across developing nations, is seeking a skilled Accountant to join their team. This role is crucial for ensuring all bookkeeping activities adhere to both local and international organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain precise and timely records of all financial transactions.
- Scrutinize payment requests to verify compliance and accuracy.
- Conduct thorough reviews of payroll and statutory deductions.
- Manage ledgers, journals, and other essential accounting documentation.
- Contribute actively to financial planning processes.
- Track actual expenditures against allocated budgets and report any discrepancies.
- Provide budget monitoring support to Project Coordinators for their respective programs.
- Ensure expenses are reviewed, corrected as needed, and accurately coded to the appropriate donor, project, or account.
- Uphold compliance with donor regulations and audit requirements.
- Ensure the timely submission of all tax filings, withholding, and other statutory returns.
- Generate financial reports and assist with data analysis, including SQL.
- Oversee fund transfers and requests from the head office.
- Perform VAT and vendor reconciliations.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports for donors.
- Adhere to all internal financial policies and procedures.
- Assist in onboarding new staff regarding financial procedures and donor guidelines.
- Promptly report any suspected financial irregularities or risks to management.
- Contribute to enhancing financial systems and internal controls.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is mandatory.
- A master's degree in Finance, Business Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven accounting experience within an NGO environment.
- A strong grasp of accounting principles, including IFRS, is essential.
- Proficiency in accounting software, such as Navision, is required.
- Demonstrated advanced skills in MS Excel, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Exceptional attention to detail and robust problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Fluency in English and at least one local Malawian language.
- Prior experience working with non-profit organizations is expected.
