Job Purpose
To develop and implement corporate communications strategies, in conjunction with PR agencies, to execute CSR, PR, and Corporate Communication activities that enhance Airtel's image as a responsible corporate citizen. This role also involves proactively managing responses to any negative publicity or perceptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive Public Relations strategies and annual calendars for Airtel Malawi.
- Guide, monitor, and assess the implementation and impact of Airtel's Corporate Social Responsibility programs.
- Plan and manage company events and functions, ensuring appropriate press coverage.
- Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with business partners, stakeholders, media houses, and government departments.
- Manage the local PR agency, ensuring high-quality work, compliance with guidelines, timely delivery, and budgetary adherence.
- Act as an official spokesperson for Airtel at company functions and events.
- Continuously monitor Airtel's public image, identify potential problem areas, and recommend remedial actions.
- Initiate the development of a Crisis Communication committee and establish comprehensive crisis communication guidelines.
Qualifications
- University Degree in Journalism, Communication, Education, Social Sciences, or Commerce.
- Strong proven experience in Public Relations, Communication, and Corporate Social Responsibility activities.
- Demonstrated understanding of the social and environmental risks and opportunities relevant to the company and its industry sector.
- Mature individual with a proven ability to analyze complex issues and design, identify, and implement effective practical recommendations.
- Fluency in English and local Malawian languages, including Chichewa.
