About Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc
Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is the country's leading producer of raw, refined, and specialty sugars, employing over 9000 people. It is part of Illovo Sugar Africa Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods plc (ABF).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide daily supervision of contractor teams and site labour, ensuring work is completed safely and to standards.
- Interpret construction drawings and translate work packages into clear, actionable daily deliverables.
- Monitor workmanship and productivity across all stages of construction, escalating deviations.
- Prepare daily schedules and work plans, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate materials, equipment, and resources.
- Manage external contractors to ensure work begins only under approved safety conditions.
- Conduct quality inspections to identify and rectify non-conformances.
- Maintain accurate daily site records including material usage, labour hours, and progress.
- Provide daily progress updates and site information to the Project Engineer/Manager.
- Implement corrective actions on site as instructed by the Project Engineer/Manager.
- Ensure project documentation is complete and work packages are verified.
- Adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies, and guidelines, including SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Civil Engineering with 2-3 years' experience in building works, or a diploma in Civil Engineering with 8 years' experience in building works.
- Strong practical experience in site supervision, quality control, and daily progress monitoring.
- Ability to work closely with the Project Engineer/Manager and the workforce.
- Proficiency with basic construction and project management tools, including MS Excel for reporting and material tracking, and ability to read and work from AutoCAD-issued drawings.
