Role Description

We are recruiting a Forestry Expert to join a small consultancy team delivering a short-term assignment. The role will focus on strengthening data and documentation systems in forestry and carbon-related projects. This is a part-time, on-site role based in Lilongwe for a Forestry Expert – Short-Term Consultant. The Forestry Expert will be responsible for providing technical advice on a forestry-related project, supporting the development and implementation of sustainable forestry management plans, and conducting field assessments. The consultant will also work closely with stakeholders, draft comprehensive reports, and provide data-driven recommendations to enhance forestry practices. Collaboration with project teams, training facilitation, and policy review may also form part of the role.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge in sustainable forestry practices, forest management, and conservation.
• Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant professional experience.
• Familiarity with carbon standards (Gold Standard, Verra) is an advantage.
• Availability for the full consultancy duration.
• Experience in conducting field research, data collection, and environmental analysis.
• Excellent report writing, technical documentation, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in stakeholder engagement, training facilitation, and policy review.
• Project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Relevant academic qualifications in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• A strong understanding of social and environmental sustainability principles is an advantage.
• Previous experience working in the Global South or similar contexts is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise on forestry and carbon credits.
• Support data management and compliance processes.
• Contribute to methodology design, field assessments, and reporting.
• Work collaboratively with M&E and data management professionals.
